With the introduction of Google Nexus One I think the industry is heading in the direction of making more unlock phones readily available. We are far far away from the EU market of unlock phones but atleast we are now heading in the right direction. This will allow possible players like Nokia to offer more unlock phones in the US market. But we have to see how the carriers play it out.
It would be nice to have unlock phones readily available without having to pay a fortune for them. But until then we would have to live with what we have.
